Punjab Govt pledges to allot 398,400 acres of land to lumberdars

In an endeavor to mobilize the village headmen (lumberdars) across the province, the Punjab government has pledged to allot around 398,400 acres of land.
A total of 38,700 lumberdars, including 2800 women are currently present in the province, of them, only 5500 have been allotted state land.
According to the Provincial Agriculture Minister Syed Hussain Jahanian Gardezi, 12 acres of land will be given to each lumberdar within three months as in the past three years, thousands of acres of state land had already been retrieved from the land mafia.
