Pakistan sets up 4G station at K2 base camp to support mountaineers
In a first, the government of Pakistan has announced that a 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) has been set up at the K2 Base camp area of Concordia with the intention of improved telecommunication services in areas full of tourism potential.
PTA and telecom operators are working jointly and honing in for better communication facilities to be provided to mountaineers and trekkers.
In loving memory of the lost late mountaineer, the area has been named Ali Sadpara. The site has been made operational by the Special Communication Organization (SCO) to provide the best communication facilities at the world’s second tallest peak K2 base camp which was inaugurated by the PM Minister of Pakistan during his visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.
It is noteworthy to mention that earlier this year, the Prime Minister declared the initiation of 3G and 4G services in the remote regions of erstwhile FATA.
