MCI Reveals Plan to Digitize Public Parking Fees in Islamabad - ahgroup-pk

Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has recently announced its plans to digitize public parking payments in the nation’s capital.

An MCI official stated that public and private groups will work together to establish a new parking management system. Installing the system will be done by a commercial company that will split the revenue. Notably, MCI will still be in charge of setting the present rates, thus the new system won’t have an impact on current parking fees. Parking costs for automobiles and bikes will therefore continue to be PKR 50 and PKR 30, respectively.

To make the transition smoother, MCI has invited fintech and technological solution companies to submit expressions of interest. The project’s first phase will focus on popular locations such as F-9 Park, Lake View, and the Centaurus Parking structure. The digital program will also encompass parking zones at Kohsar Market and G-9 Public Transportation. Furthermore, the parking fees for the two zones in F-7 will be digitized.

The Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) is committed to advancing the digitalization of public parking rates as a major step in transforming the city’s urban scene. Although an auction for the collection of F-9 parking fees yielded no interested businesses, the MCI plans to expand the initiative to cover other parts of the city in the future. This highlights the unique challenges involved in this change, but the MCI remains dedicated to making the transition as smooth as possible.
