Corvette ship tailored for Pakistan launched in Istanbul
The presidents of Turkey and Pakistan participated in the launch of the first Milgem Class Corvette, named PNS Babur for the Pakistan Navy at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard (INSY).
Both the presidents graced the occasion as chief guests and also jointly performed steel cutting of Akhisar, the offshore patrol vessel of the Turkish Navy.
“We are in agreement (with Pakistan) to further our partnership with the defense industry,” Erdoğan said, addressing the ceremony.
In this regard, Dr. Arif Alvi stated that the relationship between Pakistan and Turkey was a force for regional peace and stability.
Pakistan ordered the four MILGEM corvettes under a contract of $1.5 billion U.S. in 2018. Turkey’s INSY and Pakistan’s Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) are each building two ships.
