CDA & China Railway to Partnership for Light Rail Transit System in Islamabad
Islamabad: The CDA in Islamabad is currently in talks with China Railway to bring a light rail transit system to the city. Positive progress has been made after a fruitful first meeting, and the CDA is hopeful that future discussions will result in a successful outcome for this innovative project.
The plans for the LRT system by the CDA consist of two main routes. The first will run along the Islamabad Expressway, while the second will connect the new airport to H-8. Additionally, the CDA is considering utilizing the existing railway tracks from H-8 to Golra for the LRT, resulting in an efficient and sustainable solution.
The CDA sees the potential collaboration with China Railway as a positive development since it had been searching for international funding for the project earlier. This government-to-government agreement could lead to significant transportation improvements in the capital city, including adding a local railway system and modifying the metro bus service.
Islamabad may soon witness an era of modern and efficient public transportation with a renewed focus on two critical LRT routes.
