Hybrid Boom Saves Pakistan $27 Million in Fuel Imports

Over 30,000 hybrid cars have been sold in Pakistan in two years, saving about 30 million litres of fuel and $27 million in import costs. Hybrids now make up more than half of the SUV market, with 13 new electrified models launched since 2021. Lucky Motor’s CEO said local production is growing and hybrids offer a practical option compared to electric cars. They use smaller batteries, need no charging stations, and perform well in rural and urban areas. The shift is cutting emissions and reducing Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil.
